Spotlight on......

Ebony has been doing very well and is due to qualify this summer. Encouraged by her tutor Ebony would like to continue with her education in early years and work towards gaining her foundation degree.

Which age group to you work with?: Blueberries and Strawberries – 3 months – 2 years.

Which Mulberry Bush Nursery do you work at?: Locks Heath

Why do you enjoy working with children?: I enjoy seeing them grow and develop. Being part of that development and helping them to learn is really exciting and satisfying. When my baby sister was born I became interested in working with children. I find it hugely rewarding, especially when we get positive feedback from parents. It is wonderful when they see their children thriving and we are able to show how we are supporting them.

How long have you worked for the Mulberry Bush?: 1 year

What do you think the Mulberry Bush excels at?: I think that we are particularly good at preparing children for transitions both from one age group to the next and for the move to school. Our Preschool is excellent at preparing school leavers and I am constantly impressed by how much they learn and importantly how confident they are about learning. As a setting I think that we are very focused on children’s development holistically and I really like this. I also love the family feel of the whole nursery, the children feel supported and loved and secure which is so important.

What do you think the Mulberry Bush offers you as a practitioner?: I feel that I have been given excellent opportunities to develop and that I am really well supported. I feel very confident that I will be able to continue my professional development with the company and hopefully achieve my foundation degree. The support that I receive gives me room to learn and grow. There is always loads to do and be involved in. It’s really positive place to work.

The nursery has developed physically a lot over the last 5 years. Which areas do you most enjoy working in?: I love being outside in the garden especially taking the older babies into the big garden. They get so much from these spaces. I also enjoy working in the sensory rooms. It is amazing to have one for each age group as they are tailored to the needs of those specific children.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?: Definitely still working with children, hopefully having completed my foundation degree. I am also interested in working with children with special needs. Having come into contact with a number of individuals with special needs I would like the chance to help and support people with physical and mental health challenges.

Now for the important questions!

What’s your favourite ice cream?: Mint choc chip

What’s your favourite chocolate bar?:  I don’t like chocolate….except in mint ice cream! I’d rather have Tangfastics!

What do you like to do when you are not at work?: Spend time with my family and friends.

Which character from fiction would you be?: Peter Pan!

What’s your favourite thing to do at nursery?: Messy play!! Paint and cloud dough are my favourites but I like anything sensory that we can make a big, bright mess with!
